Would you like to join the ranks of an exclusive flying club? Become a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) with a powered parachute rating and you will be a charter member!

Today there are fewer than 100 ACTIVE CFIs nationwide. As a result, our industry has a shortage. One of the reasons some people have not entered the sport is because the nearest CFI is hundreds of miles away making it logistically impossible to take lessons.

Some students can only fly on weekends making it even more difficult since they are competing with many other weekend flyers for the few available CFIs.  Vacation time and the "accelerated programs" has been the solution for many students. This has given rise to traveling instruction and the birth of accelerated flight training at the student's home playing field. A few flight schools offer the convenience of accelerated flight training programs at their facilities. Nevertheless, more instructors are needed over the next 5 years as new pilots enter the system.

Today, most CFI-SPs are part time professionals offering flight training on a limited schedule. Becoming a CFI will take some dedication and effort, but the rewards will outweigh the sacrifice. Your goal to become a CFI should primarily be for personal achievement and to greatly enhance your aeronautical knowledge and flying skills. Income opportunities will depend on your availability and student load.

Teaching someone to fly is a very rewarding experience. Your student's will look up to you and appreciate their training as they earn their sport pilot certificate. You will be teaching critical "judgment skills" necessary for them to enjoy many years of safe flying. As a CFI, you will make a significant contribution to flight safety and by extension to everyone flying in the National Airspace System.

Among the ranks of our national pilot population can be found many experienced powered parachute pilots who would make good flight instructors. Why not become part of this historic "first wave" of CFIs with a PPC rating? If the thought of becoming an instructor has crossed your mind, then you are likely a good candidate to teach. Review 14 CFR, section 61.401 through 61.429 to become familiar with the process and requirements. If your circumstances permit and you are up to the challenge, there will never be a better time to become a CFI!
