You can earn your private pilot certificate with a powered parachute rating. This certificate allows you to fly above 10,000 feet, fly at night and in all classes of airspace. Training requirements for this certificate is outlined in 14 CFR section 61.109(i).  Although this certificate is not for everyone seeking to fly a powered parachute, you can enjoy privileges like any other fixed wing private pilot. 

 The following is a summary the minimums training hours found in section 61.109(i).

·         25 hours of flight time in a powered parachute

·         10 hours of flight training

·         1 hour of cross-country flight training

·         10 hours of solo flight training

·         30 take offs and landings

·         1 solo cross-country flight with a landing 25 NM from the departure airport

·         20 solo takeoffs and landings to a full stop
